Thai food in Dubai is better than it needs to be
The restaurant presence is disproportionate to the population, running from hotel dining rooms down to small places serving the community itself. The gap between the two is considerable, and a Thai companion will know which is which — a genuinely useful thing on an evening built around dinner.
Language and expectations

The social register is quieter than the Gulf default and very much quieter than the Marina on a Thursday, with a strong cultural emphasis on keeping things comfortable and heading off awkwardness before it arrives. That suits some evenings perfectly and others not at all. If what you want is a long dinner and unhurried conversation rather than a night that escalates, this is a good page to be looking at.
